First Time Drivers

Currently, Florida Statute 322.095 requires first time driver license applicants to complete an approved Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education Course, or complete a Department of Education approved driver education course, before issuance of a driver license by the Division of Driver Licenses. The Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education Course focuses on traffic education, substance abuse education, DUI laws, and tobacco education. Applicants applying for their restricted or operator's license must complete this class prior to receiving their license. D.A.T.E. is an approved Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education Course.

The fee is $24.00 for the on-line course. You may register and pay for the on-line course at: www.DriveSafeTampa.org
